MegaSurvey Background

Infection preventionists (IPs) play a crucial role in protecting patients and staff by preventing the spread of infections in healthcare settings. Their responsibilities span outbreak response, surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), implementation of prevention strategies, ensuring compliance, and addressing emerging challenges such as antibiotic resistance.

To strengthen and support the infection prevention workforce, it’s vital to understand who IPs are, what they do, and the environments in which they work. This includes their backgrounds, roles within their organizations, and key areas of practice.

APIC, the leading professional association for IPs with more than 15,000 members from diverse healthcare and public health backgrounds, is committed to supporting IPs through research, education, and advocacy. Since 2015, APIC has conducted the MegaSurvey to capture a detailed picture of the IP profession.

The 2025 MegaSurvey will build on past efforts to provide comprehensive data on compensation, resources, organizational structure, and practice trends. The results will inform APIC’s strategic planning, guide research priorities, support industry innovation, and equip IPs with valuable benchmarking insights.

MegaSurvey Objective

The goal of this project is to administer the APIC MegaSurvey 2025, and the results will be used to develop resources to support and guide future IP practice. In addition, data from the APIC MegaSurvey 2025 will be compared to data from MegaSurvey 2020 and MegaSurvey 2015 to identify trends and changes in the workforce.
