Potential Risk for New Mpox Cases

Potential Risk for New Mpox Cases

The CDC issued a Health Alert Network (HAN) Health Update to remind clinicians of ongoing community transmission of mpox (formerly known as Monkeypox). Although cases have declined since peaking in August 2022, CDC is currently investigating a cluster of mpox cases in the Chicago area. The purpose of this HAN update is to inform clinicians and public health agencies about the potential for new clusters or outbreaks during spring and summer 2023 as people gather for festivals or other events. Although vaccine-induced immunity is not complete, vaccination continues to be one of the most important prevention measures. Read more for CDC recommendations for evaluating, treating, and preventing mpox.
