HHS Announces “Bridge Access Program for COVID-19 Vaccines and Treatments”
The declaration of the COVID-19 public health emergency (PHE) in 2020 enabled the federal government to implement the largest vaccination program in U.S. history, providing nearly 700 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines free of charge. Now that the PHE has expired, most Americans will be able to access the vaccines and COVID-19 treatments through their health insurance without out-of-pocket costs. However, in order to ensure that 25 million uninsured adults do not lose this access, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced the “Bridge Access Program for COVID-19 Vaccines and Treatment,” a public-private partnership to temporarily prevent the loss of access to COVID-19 treatment and prevention for under- and uninsured adults through the end of 2024.
