ASPR Releases Pandemic Flu Strategy
The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), through the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), released a Pandemic Influenza Preparedness and Response Strategy focused on efforts to support a response to the current Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI)H5N1 threat. This strategy is a component of the larger collaborative HHS influenza research strategy, which includes NIH, CDC, and FDA, and supports State and local community efforts to ensure activities are integrated, coordinated, and best utilize available resources.
This Strategy includes four objectives:
- Objective 1: Strategic implementation and deployment of the U.S. National Pre-pandemic Influenza Vaccine Stockpile (NPIVS).
- Objective 2: Enhanced protection through novel vaccines against pandemic influenza.
- Objective 3: Leverage therapeutics through deployment, early availability, and development of novel products.
- Objective 4: Ensure rapid and effective diagnostics tools to inform rapid antiviral prescription and treatment.
