The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) Congratulates Dr. Susan Monarez on her Nomination to Serve as CDC Director

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is a vital agency dedicated to protecting Americans from infectious and chronic diseases alike. Confirmation of the President’s nomination of Dr. Susan Monarez as Director of the CDC would ensure strong, consistent leadership to effectively advance the agency’s critical mission.
Carol McLay, DrPH, MPH, BSN, RN, CIC, FAPIC, FSHEA, 2025 President of APIC stated, “In her previous role as Deputy Director of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), Dr. Monarez served as keynote speaker on APIC’s AI Summit on the Impact of Information Technology on Infection Prevention and Control. Her expertise in integrating emerging technologies with infection prevention greatly impressed our members and demonstrated her commitment to advancing public health efforts.”
APIC is confident that Dr. Monarez’s leadership in strengthening the nation’s biomedical innovation capabilities—particularly her efforts in combating antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and multidrug-resistant and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR/XDR TB)—will be instrumental as she leads the CDC. As the first CDC Director to undergo Senate confirmation, we are optimistic she will successfully navigate the process and bring visionary leadership to the agency.
We look forward to working alongside Dr. Monarez to continue advancing our shared goal of reducing healthcare-associated infections and enhancing patient safety nationwide.
