APIC Establishes Leadership Institute to Identify and Foster Rising IPC Professionals
Initial cohort will focus on individuals from underrepresented backgrounds
San Antonio, Texas, June 3, 2024 – To advance the development of aspiring leaders in infection prevention and control (IPC) and position these individuals for future leadership roles within APIC and their own organizations, APIC today announced the formation of the APIC Leadership Institute.
APIC Leadership Institute participants will engage in an 18-month program of mentoring, professional coaching, networking, IPC certification assistance, and online instruction. The program will provide opportunities to gain skills through volunteer leadership within APIC and will enhance skills that can be applied within their own work settings.
While the Leadership Institute will be open to all APIC members, the initial cohort of up to 10 rising leaders will be selected from racial, ethnic, gender, culture, and socioeconomic backgrounds that are currently underrepresented in the IPC field.
“There are a limited number of minorities and individuals from economically depressed regions of the country being promoted to top positions in our field,” said Tania Bubb, PhD, RN, CIC, FAPIC, 2024 APIC president. “Our goal with this program is to support the professional growth of rising leaders and help them advance within APIC and their place of employment.”
The call for applicants for the APIC Leadership Institute will be announced in 2025; the first cohort will start in September of 2025.
