Microlearning encompasses a variety of short, focused microlessons, usually with just 1-3 learning objectives. Examples include a 3 to 5-minute training video that is ideal for just-in-time learning or a 10-minute PowerPoint plus audio presentation focused on a specific idea, model, or process.

Microlearning provides accessible content that is practical, timely, and effective in improving learning, performance, knowledge, skills, and/or awareness.  It also engages a wider pool of professionals and practitioners in an emergent, creative process of learning, problem-solving, and knowledge-sharing.

Microlearning is an ancient best practice for focused learning to help improve performance, but it is also modern. Today, people expect internet/mobile friendly manageable chunks of meaningful learning when and where they want it.  The Microlearning Hub will be for IPs/members only via a trusted source, APIC.

• APIC Microlearning Hub microlessons will vary in length from 3 to 5-minutes up to 10 to 15-minutes.

• They will normally cover only 1-3 learning objectives.

• Outline a step-by-step “how to” process, such as how to effectively prepare for a survey

• Provide a simple case study, what worked well, or other lessons learned

• Summarize valuable tips or a best practice, such as a “Top 5” (or 7, or 10) list of things to look for when doing IPC rounding, etc.

• Narrate a visual/graphic, such as putting the key elements of a poster session into a digital poster presentation with audio

• Provide a practical toolkit or resource, with explanation for how to use it effectively

• Teach/illustrate a specific future-oriented subdomain within the APIC Competency Model

• All microlessons will be submitted through APIC’s online submission platform which will ask for basic information about the submitter/author and the specific microlesson, including title, overview/learning objectives, content categories/practice settings, and key words
• All submissions should be carefully copy edited, free of any copyright violations, and professionally presented for an audience of IP peers, including with appropriate references where applicable to evidence-based practice
• Each microlesson submitted will be reviewed by an experienced IP. There is no guarantee that your microlesson will be approved. Also, you may be asked to edit or clarify something.
• All submitters will need to acknowledge and agree to having no conflict of interest and will be required to agree to APIC’s standard content agreement provisions for submitting content, including giving APIC permission to publish the microlesson online if it is approved.
