Transition to ANCC Accreditation – Frequently Asked Questions
Why is APIC moving from Joint Accreditation to ANCC accreditation?
What does this mean for my current courses?
If you are enrolled in courses that include CE credit (contact hours) under Joint Accreditation, you must claim your credits by December 31, 2025. After this date, Joint Accreditation credits will no longer be available.
What happens on January 1, 2026?
There will be a temporary pause in CE credit (contact hour) availability at the start of 2026 while APIC completes the ANCC approval process (February- May 2026). Courses will still be accessible, but continuing education credit will not be available until ANCC accreditation is finalized. IPUs will still be available.
When will CE credit (contact hours) return under ANCC?
Once ANCC approval is confirmed in February-May 2026, CE credit (contact hours) will resume for eligible activities. From that point forward, all contact hour-bearing APIC education will carry ANCC Nursing Continuing Professional Development accreditation.
Will I lose the credits I’ve already earned?
No. Credits claimed by December 31, 2025 will remain valid and documented in your learner record. We recommend downloading and saving your certificates for your personal files.
Who can I contact with questions?
Please reach out to education@apic.org for assistance with claiming credits, accessing certificates, or understanding the transition timeline.
How will this affect my APIC Learning System?
After December 31, 2025, CE credits (contact hours) will no longer be available for physicians utilizing the APIC Learning Systems. For those pursuing nursing CE credits (contact hours), we recommend you complete the Post-test before December 31, 2025, or wait until after APIC completes the ANCC approval process (February- May 2026). If you complete the Post-test during this temporary pause period, nursing CE credits (contact hours) will not be issued and cannot be retroactively issued upon ANCC approval. IPUs remain available during this time.
