Health-Related Executive Orders from the New Administration

Among the dozens of executive actions issued by the Trump Administration since Inauguration Day are some that may impact federal agencies, councils, and regulations with a role in healthcare policy. These include implementing a freeze on new regulations until they are approved by an agency head appointed by President Trump, replacing career (nonpolitical) civil service employees in positions with confidential or policy-influencing responsibilities with staff who are aligned with the administration’s political agenda, and revoking all executive actions since 2021 providing guarantees of diversity, equity, and inclusion for people of all races, nationalities, genders, sexual orientation, and physical or behavioral abilities. The president also abolished the existing President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST), then re-established a new PCAST to advise the President on matters involving science, technology, education, and innovation policy to inform public policy relating to the American economy, the American worker, national and homeland security, and other topics.
