New NHSN Reporting Requirements

Please read the March 2024 NHSN E-Newsletter for important updates, including:

• The new CMS requirement for hospitals and critical access hospitals to report antibiotic use and resistance data in the NHSN AUR Module became effective at the beginning of calendar year 2024. See Page 2 of the newsletter for instructions on registering for the AUR Module.
• Although the NHSN race and ethnicity data fields have long been included as “optional,” responding to these data fields will be required across all NHSN components and facility types starting in 2025. See Page 3 for more information.
• 2024 NHSN training will include presentations on the update of the national baseline to calculate HAI SIRs and SURs, using the 2022 national aggregate data. Read more about the rebaseline and the NHSN training schedule on Page 5.

• The deadline to submit data on HCP influenza vaccination for the 2023-2024 flu season is May 15, 2024. Read more on Page 7.
