Remembering Global Health Leader and Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Paul Farmer

Arlington, Va., February 22, 2022 — Dr. Paul Farmer, a global health expert, humanitarian, and founder of Partners in Health, died suddenly this week Rwanda.

Known for his commitment to social justice and improving the health of impoverished communities around the world, Dr. Farmer believed that everyone deserved access to quality healthcare. He worked with community organizations around the world to strengthen public health systems in areas including cancer and chronic disease, child health, emergency response, HIV/AIDS, maternal health, mental health, and tuberculosis.

APIC wishes to extend its condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Farmer. The world lost a bright light and compassionate servant in the work of health equity and the prevention of infectious diseases with the passing of Dr. Farmer.
