Devin Jopp Named CEO of APIC

Devin Jopp Named CEO of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology 

Experienced nonprofit leader, innovator to head a leading voice for infection prevention and control 

Arlington, Va., October 8, 2020 — The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) today announced that Devin Jopp, EdD, MS, has been named CEO, effective December 7, 2020. 

Jopp brings to APIC more than two decades of association leadership with a wide array of experience and accomplishments from across the healthcare and nonprofit sectors. He has been recognized as one of the top 100 most influential healthcare leaders by Healthcare Management International Magazine and one of the top 50 healthcare IT experts by Health Data Management Magazine. 

“Devin brings an impressive lineup of skills to the CEO role at APIC,” said Connie Steed, MSN, RN, CIC, FAPIC, 2020 president of APIC. “We are fortunate to have found someone with Devin’s vision, commitment, and in-depth knowledge across the healthcare spectrum to lead APIC as we chart a course into the future.” 

Jopp currently serves as CEO for the American College Health Association, the principal leadership organization for advancing the health and well-being of the nation’s 20 million college students and their campus communities through advocacy, education, and research. 

Prior to that, Jopp served as president and CEO for the Workgroup for Electronic Data Interchange (WEDI), a national nonprofit advisor to the Secretary of Health and Human Services focused on enhancing the exchange of healthcare information.  

Before joining WEDI, Jopp served as chief operating officer for the Service Corp of Retired Executives, a national nonprofit organization that provides business mentoring and training to American entrepreneurs. 

Earlier in his career, Jopp held leadership positions at URAC, an independent, nonprofit healthcare accreditation organization, and at the Health Insurance Association of America. 

“We were looking for a candidate equipped to advance APIC’s mission to create a safer world through the prevention of infection,” said Ann Marie Pettis, RN, BSN, CIC, FAPIC, president-elect of APIC and chair of the APIC CEO search committee. “Devin’s wide-ranging background and accomplishments make him uniquely positioned to lead our organization as we look to accelerate the impact of our work.” 

“I am incredibly honored to serve APIC as their new CEO and to advance the critical work of APIC’s mission,” Jopp said. “COVID-19 shines a light on the critical need for advancing our collective efforts in infection prevention and control,” said Jopp. He added, “Together, with an outstanding Board of Directors, leaders, members, and staff, we will work to elevate our collective voice to ensure infection prevention and control is at the core of our healthcare delivery system and woven into the very fabric of our community.” 

Jopp received a Bachelor of Arts in computer information systems from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland, a Master of Science in computer and information sciences from Hood College, and a Doctor of Education in human and organizational learning (EdD) from the George Washington University. He lives in Vienna, Va. with his wife, Sandhya, and their three children.
